The game’s Rewards → Companions panel offers followers that fetch coins and experience wisps. The interface says companions follow heroes across all classes. Unlocking the offer, buying the follower and selecting its appearance are different steps.

Pocket Change unlocks the first offer

  1. Open Achievements, then Lifetime.
  2. Find Pocket Change: its displayed requirement is collecting 5,000 gold, and its award is 10 achievement points.
  3. Open Rewards → Companions. The initial Companion offer requires Pocket Change and costs 50 reward points.
  4. Check your total available points from all earned achievements before choosing an upgrade.

Pocket Change’s 10-point award does not by itself pay the 50-point price. The gold threshold is an achievement condition; it is not the currency used for that purchase. Our inspection stopped at the locked offer, with no purchase confirmed.

What the basic companion is described as fetching

The base description says it fetches coins and experience wisps up to 25 yards beyond your pickup radius, one every 2 seconds. It excludes magnets and caches. Those limits matter: the offer does not describe an instant pickup of everything on the map.

Range, speed and instincts

Displayed initial upgrades, each requiring Pocket Change
UpgradeShown priceDisplayed effect, paraphrased
Long Leash15 pointsFetch range reaches 35 yards beyond your pickup radius.
Quick Paws15 pointsCompanions run 20% faster and fetch every 1.6 seconds.
Gold-sniffer30 pointsAn instinct that prioritizes coins and increases the value of fetched coins by 10%.
Wisp-herder30 pointsAn instinct that prioritizes experience wisps and carries three per trip.
Rune-hound30 pointsAn instinct that also fetches battleground runes and prioritizes them.

The panel allows one instinct for each companion and says the first bought goes to the first companion. We did not test reallocating instincts or later upgrade ranks.

A second companion has a separate gate

Treasure Hunter, in Achievements → Lifetime, requires collecting 50,000 gold and awards 25 points. It unlocks the Second Companion offer, whose displayed price is 150 points. The description gives that follower its own instinct.

An appearance is not the follower purchase

The lower panel lets you choose a slot and a look. Squirrel was marked as worn on the inspected save even though the functional Companion offer was still locked. Seeing a selected appearance therefore does not establish that you have bought the follower.

For the shared points system and its reset limit, read Achievements and reward perks. These descriptions were read from menus; no pickup speed or pathfinding was measured during a run.

Sources & scope

Read directly from the original browser game’s v0.94.1 (9ac78ba7) menus on 16 October 2026. Costs are the initial offers shown with zero reward points spent. No achievement was earned, purchase confirmed, perk reset used or companion tested during a run. These features also have menu entries in our older v0.91.2 screenshot; this is a current reference, not a release changelog.
