The Lord of Blackrock. “The Dark Iron and the Blackrock clan march out of the mountain together, fire elementals and dragonkin at their side. Above them circles the Lord of Blackrock.” Blackrock Mountain is zone 10 of 12, and its final boss is Nefarian.

How to unlock Blackrock Mountain

Blackrock Mountain comes after Alterac Valley in the game’s zone order. The zone menu keeps a zone locked until you defeat a named final boss; in this order that is Azuregos. Surviving until that boss arrives is not enough; the menu asks for the kill. After Nefarian comes Gates of Ahn’Qiraj. Opened zones are saved per class.

Sources & scope

Zone and boss records read from the original game’s v0.103.1 (671c6f5e) WebAssembly build on 2026-10-20. The zone record holds no unlock requirement: the order is the order the game stores its 12 zones in, and the zone menu’s lock text names a final boss. In v0.91.2 each zone opened after the final boss of the zone before it; we have not checked in play that this still holds with Un’Goro Crater, Scarlet Monastery and Naxxramas added. Boss health is the base value stored in the game data. The zone, run options and level change what you meet in a run, and we have not measured them.
