Short answer: pick a Paladin for your first clear. It has the highest base health (245), heals itself, and can survive a killing blow. A Hunter is the best ranged choice. The tiers below rank how forgiving each class is for a new player, not its damage ceiling.

Health is the class base before race, talents and equipment. A death-save talent has to be bought in its tree first, so it matters more once the class has some talent points.

Race traits

Race adds an active effect and passive bonuses on top of the class. For survival, Tauren (+15% health) and Orc (+10% health) raise the base number directly; Undead and Night Elf get a short immunity near death.

How to use this list

Play one class for several runs before switching, so talent points build up. When a zone gets hard, lower enemy health or damage in Run Options instead of changing class. Each class page lists the full spell pool and talent trees.

Sources & scope

Class health, ranges, talents and race traits were read from the original game’s v0.103.1 (671c6f5e) WebAssembly build on 2026-10-20. The tiers are our editorial judgement for a first clear based on those values. They are not measured win rates and do not rank damage at high talent levels.
